How much to charge for putting ride time on horses?
I am looking to start my own business in putting ride time on green or winter sour horses. I would be starting in the spring when many people are looking for tune ups (I live in WI and many people don't get a chance to ride) I am wondering what would be a reasonable rate to charge.
I would prefer to base it on sessions, say each session was a hour and a half long, and have there be a difference between just ground-work and saddle work. What would be a reasonable price to charge, also I would add on if it was further than a 20 mile drive from my place.
I am an experienced rider, trained one horse from scratch finished a horse that wasn't worked with in 6 years (my own) and I have also showed inexperienced horses.
No, I would just go to the owners barn as many times as they needed/wanted and work with their horse until they are comfortable.
One of my requirements would be an arena or round pen, and I would have a liability contract. I have done this for friends of friends.
i think 30 dollars an hour is fair. if you were training a horse it would be different, but you're mostly just getting the winter bugs out.
