How can I identify/find excellent Maple Syrup in Canada?
I want to buy some really good canadian maple syrup in Canada. I'll be in the Waterloo/Kitchener region. How can I figure out where to go or what to get? Certainly, they sell it in the grocery store - but is that of the quality I hear Canada is famous for, or do i need to go to some specialty shop?
Also, how much should i expect to pay for good syrup?
None of the maple syrup sold here is adulterated, and the grocery store carry a good selection, tourist area like the St Jacobs area will sell fine and good quality MS but at a premium price.
I saw a tin of Quebec syrup in the Metro for $8.99 for a 375ml tin, a bottle of MS in a nice glass bottle for the same price but it was 400ml, we standardize our syrup by colour, medium, light and amber, all are good the amber i a bit more heady better for baking and the other 2 for pancakes and waffle, I worked as a chef and we got gallon tins of it and it went for $80, but shop around before buying, even the grocery store in St Jacobs, see how much there's is too.
