How does the Harry Potter ride work?
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, to be specific- the simulation ride inside the castle at Universal Studio's Island of Adventures.
I get the whole robotic arm, video projections, visual effects, etc...What I don't understand is how one group of 4 riders on a bench is able to watch a 30-second video simulation while the next, oncoming group is so close. Wouldn't that group need to be watching that video too? The videos are so long when compared to some of the non-video sections- shouldn't the amount of time spent by the two groups at each video overlap?
This has been puzzling me for awhile! I'm not sure if I just gauged the time incorrectly or if there's some technical reason, but any explanation would be wonderful!
Your seats and the screens are moving together. When the "arm" with your seats enter a filmed area, your arm puts you into one of the screens that is convex (think about half a plastic Easter egg). Now you are moving along with the screen as your seat is being moved to make you feel like you're in the action. As you come to a more "live-action" section, you are taken out of the screen so you can interact with the props and scenery. Anytime you come to a section that is film, your "arm" moves your seat into the screen and the two of you move together through that section of the ride together. So, there isn't 1 big screen like in Spiderman, there are multiple screens that each surround (so to speak) each ride vehicle and travel with it.
