FIRST FOOTBALL GAME LETTER:

8/21/07

Dear Shark Regiment Band Parents and Students,

The season is about to officially begin! Our first football game is upon us. It is an Away game, and it will take place this Friday, August 31th against Deland High School at the Spec Martin Stadium. Here’s what you need to know about this trip:

-All students must turn in their current $25.00 band payment before being permitted on the bus. This should be the second payment out of $250 owed for the year. Students who have already paid in full do not need to turn in money

-Students must also turn in the required forms before being permitted on the bus!

Notarized form, Permission form, Information Form, Agreement Form

-Students will meet at the AHS band room and will take a bus to the stadium

-Students must be in the band room NO LATER THAN 5:30 pm

-Students must wear black socks and black band shoes (if shoes have not arrived yet, an old pair will do - we have extras in the band room)

-In the future, students will be required to wear pep band shirts underneath the uniform as well

-When you arrive in the band room, students must put on their full uniform

-No one steps off the bus at the stadium without full uniform on

-Students must also be responsible for loading their own equipment onto the band truck - This will be done at the end of third block on Friday.

-Plumes for the hats will be distributed at the game

-The bus will arrive at 5:45 pm, and we will leave the band room no later than that time - girls must sit next to girls, and boys next to boys on the bus.

-Upon arrival at the stadium, all equipment must be taken off of the truck (quickly) and cases placed back onto it

-When all is unloaded, inspection will take place. All uniform parts must be correct, no jewelry may be worn at all, hair must be worn up into the hat, instruments and mouthpieces must be clean, and reeds must be of good quality. Take care of these things BEFORE Friday’s game

-After inspection, students will warm up

-At about 6:30, we will march into the stands, and throughout the game support our team with cheers and fight songs

-The band will be expected to sit in a specific seating arrangement, and will be required march in together, and stand and sit together

-NO INDIVIDUAL PLAYING and NO SONG REQUESTS

-The only people authorized to choose music are the Band Director, Drum Major, and other staff members

-Students who need to use the restroom must request permission and may require a chaperone

-About 7 minutes before half-time, students will be ushered down to the track where we will warm up for performance

-We are planning on marching Superman and Far and Away, while standing still for ET

-After half-time we will have a 3rd quarter break. A time will be designated for students to be back in their seats. If this time is abused, this privilege will be taken away for the next performance

-Each week a section will be designated to help load and unload the truck. This week that section is the DRUMLINE. Next week it will be the BRASS. Other students are free to help, but the designated section is required to load and unload. Any student in a section who does not assist will have their performance grade lowered by one letter, and will be issued a consequence on Monday.

-At the end of the game, instruments are to be put in their cases and left in a designated area to be loaded onto the truck. After this has happened, the student may load the bus. Please sit in the same seat you arrived to the game in for courtesy of those on the truck crew.

-Expect to return to the band room at 10:30 pm, and be dismissed at 10:45

-All students must remain in the band room to clean up equipment - please put away instruments and music, and take home uniforms.

NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE UNTIL THE BAND DIRECTOR HAS INSPECTED THE ROOM AND HE DISMISSES EVERYONE FROM THE PODIUM.

Every student needs to take home the uniform to be dry-cleaned. This should be done after every performance. Please be aware that performances are only a week apart, and that this should be done as quickly as possible. After a uniform is dry-cleaned, it may be returned to the band room. Students will need to wear their uniform to enter every game.

Remember that when in uniform each student is under constant watch of everyone in the stadium. Take pride in the uniform and behave with responsibility and respect towards the school and towards everyone around us.

Please remember that each performance is considered a Test Grade. Every action a student takes will add to or subtract from this grade. Please make responsible choices, but most of all…GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!

Sincerely,

Mr. Brad Gillet

Band Director
