what would happen if you were just free floating in outer space?
say youre an astronaut working on the space station so you hae a suit and somehow u get cut loose, do you really drift away like in movies? how is that possible with no air or gravity? what would propell you? could your motion build any momentum to send you in a certain direction like swimming? or would you just be flailing around like youre in a harnass stuck in that one spot in space?
forget the whole astronaut situation that was just for example, im just asking about space and a person, assuming they can last in the conditions indefinetly... so if you can propel yourself by pushing against something, would you be able to swim or something? if you were naked, would a strong fart be enough to send you in a direction until another force acted upon you?
If you were working on the space station you would have plenty of gravity from earth.
The reason they float around in orbit is not the lack of gravity, but because they are in free fall. You would just continue to fall to the earth.
In deep deep space, where there is amost no gravity working on you, you would learn about newtons laws of physics. An object in motion continues in motion until acted upon by another force.
Whatever the last movement you made was is the speed and direction that you will continue to travel.
With no air, there is no friction to slow you down, so you just continue floating in the same direction without slowing down or speeding up until something stops you.
