How can my sweaty hands hold drum sticks?
I'm a drummer and I sweat alot. when Iplay live i'm always worried my sticks will slip from my hands- they do half of the time. its very embarrassing. I've tried grip tape and gloves and they did not seem to do the trick. any suggestions to get a good grip on sticks when ur hands are almost dripping sweat?
As a drummer, I know what this feels like. Not only is it embarrassing to drop a stick because of it, but it's very uncomftorable and messes up your grip.
You can't really stop it, but you can prevent some of it. I usually air out any moisture before playing by shaking my hands. It's also wise to take your sticks and wipe them off with your shirt or a rag.
If your hands DO start sweating during a performance, you obviously can't stop whilst playing. What I do is try to not think about it, just maintain your grip and keep on playing. You can always bring some extra sticks and swap a pair after songs, so you don't have to play with wet sticks.
