how do i get rid of white noise?
i already asked this question and i need a little more depth to it
my set up is:
-mxl 990
-lexicon alpha audio interface
-nady smps-1x phantom power
-ibook g4
-standard midi cables/guitar cables
i might change computers to a much, MUCH better computer so im pretty set the culprit to the white noise is my phantom power. my initial question is what phantom power should i get then?
also, since i may get a new computer, ive been looking into getting into pro tools. Which one do i get? I mainly record acoustic type music (guitar, tamborine, shaker, ukulele, cajon, etc.) and maybe some drums here and there.

Hi Joe:
As Joe Bergen ("Pro AV Guy") mentioned a couple of months ago, the last time you asked about this, your Nady phantom power supply would be the first thing to suspect, followed by the MXL condenser mike, which is the only other variable from your previous Audio Technica mike setup.
Power supplies and condenser mikes both have components that could fail and cause electronic noise (bad filter capacitor, defective FET or chip in the MXL, etc.).
Similar to Joe Bergen's suggestion, take your mike & phantom supply to a musician friend (with a mixer with phantom power built in) or to a music store (if you bought the MXL online) and do a quick test for your noise problem.
The only other thing to check is your Lexicon Alpha "Apple Control Panel" settings for audio, to make sure your gain structure is set properly throughout your Mac & GarageBand setup.
Hopefully you kept your receipts, in case you need to return for warranty claim.
As far as a new computer & ProTools, that can be a whole new discussion, depending on your budget.
