Band Director's Welcome

Dear Band Members and Parents:

WELCOME to the 2007-2008 Shark Regiment Band!  I would like to thank all the students for an outstanding and successful year of both Marching and Concert band this past year.  We are striving to achieve a new, higher level of performance and overall style, which will  help to bring back the life and vitality of the Atlantic Band Program.  You will work hard, learn a lot, and have more friends and fun than anyone else at AHS.   Our major focus this year will be on improving the overall quality of musicianship within our program so that each band member is equipped with the tools to become a great performer. We will also be working on setting a new standard of excellence in character, responsibility and PRIDE.  With your commitment to your own personal growth as a musician and performer and to the growth of the band, you will help us reach our goals.   Everyone will be learning that to be successful sometimes you have to show up early, stay late and most importantly, to remain consistent, focused and make NO Excuses!

Many exciting events are in store for students and parents this year.  The 2007 marching show has arrived and is yet to be titled.    The music and show concept will  prove to be more visually stunning and exciting than last year’s show.  I am confident that the students will enjoy the theme of the show and thoroughly enjoy the musical and physical demands.  This season is shaping up to become incredible and we encourage everyone to join us in creating a successful Atlantic Band season!

As we promote teamwork among our band members, we also want all parents to know that they are very important members of our team.  Parental support and encouragement at our performances and competitions means a great deal to OUR band and to YOUR child.  Our staff and band boosters work diligently to provide support and encouragement to our students, but parental support makes a larger difference in the lives of these young performers.  Competition days are a great opportunity to invite grandparents, aunts, uncles and other extended family members to a day of entertainment and socialization.

The study of music contributes to the quality of every student’s life in many important ways. Through playing music, composing, and  singing, students can learn to express themselves creatively. Every course in music, including our performances, will provide instruction in creating, performing, listening to and analyzing music, with a focus on music appreciation.

I look forward to meeting everyone for this upcoming season.  If you have any questions, please contact me through the director email address under Contacts.  I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Sincerely,

Brad Gillet

Band Director
