Important Dates & Information To Remember
The end of the school year is here! I hope that everyone has a wonderful summer vacation and is ready and willing to come back to Atlantic with a refreshed mind, and able to work with the changes ahead. Don’t forget that Band Camp begins two weeks before school does on August 4th. This week, as we close out the year, the band room will be cleaned up and a marching show will be chosen.
End of the Year Band Party
Our year will end with our traditional band party on the last day of school. Students can purchase pizzas for $5.50 per pie. Brass players will be responsible for bringing drinks, woodwind players should bring in a dessert or snack of some sort, and percussion players should bring in cups, plates, and napkins. We will be watching a movie on the Big Screen Band Wall. The movie title will be discussed this week in band.
Returning Uniforms and Equipment
Students should return all uniforms before the end of this week. Checked out instruments must be returned as well. If any student is going to be borrowing an instrument over the summer, they must be enrolled in the band next year and they must fill out a new form. See Mr. Gillet if you have any questions
Leadership Training Classes On-Line for Free
A leadership training course is open to all band students at www.bandleadership.com. These leadership courses are free to all students and are funded by several generous grants, sponsorships, and donations. They have a highly qualified and experienced staff that will be teaching each class and providing support. They will utilize the latest innovative tools, techniques, and technology to enhance the learning experience.
The primary focus of the course offered during the summer is teaching techniques for drill and sectionals, communication, group psychology, problem solving, motivational concepts, discipline concerns and issues, teamwork and positive role modeling. In addition to providing structured content that will cover these key areas, students will also actively participate in discussions with other student leaders, instructors, and band directors about their specific leadership issues and needs. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with former high school student leaders who are currently serving as leaders in college programs, businesses, drum corps, and many other types of organizations.
The summer course is 8 weeks long beginning on June 9th and students may register at any time prior to the start of the course. The entire course is delivered online and is designed to allow students to work and complete the course according to their schedule. Additional information can be found at http://www.bandleadership.com or feel free to call 1-800-851-0962

Full Band 4:00 - 5:30 PM
After School Rehearsal –
Procedures before we begin:
-In an effort to make sure we begin rehearsal on time this year, the
starting time has been extended to 3:15. It has not been stressed enough that students need to be ready to go
outside by 3:00
pm. Any student who is not
on the field at 3:15 will receive a
demerit. Students may keep their clothes to change into in their lockers, and
may use the changing rooms in the music building. Be sure to be changed BEFORE 3:00 so that you are on time!
-Also be sure to use the restroom before rehearsal starts because
running inside during practice takes away from not only your rehearsal time,
but the entire band’s time! Holes on the field during practice are frustrating
to EVERYONE!
-Don’t forget to bring your hat, sunscreen, water, and your drill
(always!) to the field with you.
-Remember to wear the correct shoes!
-If students can see that rain is likely during a rehearsal, woodwind
players should bring their cases to the field with them. Do not leave the case
open during rehearsal, though! There will be many times where the band will
choose to continue to rehearse if there is no danger from thunder and
lightening.
At the end of rehearsal:
-Students should expect to be released from after school
rehearsals at 5:45 pm. Mr. Gillet will remain in the band room after rehearsal
on Thursday, but on Tuesday, the door will be locked by 6:00 pm. Please be
prompt in picking up students.
About Locking The Lockers
Students must remember that it is important to keep personal belongings
in their lockers and to keep them locked at all times EVEN DURING REHEARSAL
TIME! There are days when we don’t remain in the band room for rehearsal,
especially on days of Pep Rallies. Unfortunately, every door may be assumed
locked in the building, but things still go missing. Be responsible for your
items. Keep those lockers locked 100% of the time!
Other Important
Info: Football Games: GUIDELINES:

-When hats placed on the seats, space them out evenly
-After 3rd quarter break, full uniform goes back
on
-Behavior in the stands must be professional! Each student
is representing the band program and the school. Be courteous to the
chaperones, be ready to play when needed, stay in your seats, don’t let anyone
not in band sit with us.
If you need to be spoken to about
your behavior at any point during the game, you can be assured that you won’t
be coming to the next one.
-Cheer for your team, and remember that the Band Uniform is
a symbol of honor and respect. Treat it as such, and behave with responsibility
while wearing it!
-At the end of the game, we will stay until the other band
leaves
Buses – Please keep your voices to a minimum on the bus.
Even though you may think its fun, bus drivers don’t like singing because it
distracts them from driving.
Special Note to
Alumni: If you wish to play at any of the games, you must request
permission from Mr. Gillet prior to the game. A special “Alumni band day” will
be scheduled for Homecoming. At that game, any band alumni are invited to
perform in the stands with the band.
