Band Boosters
|
The state of the
organization
Mr. Gillet would like to re-emphasized the
point that everyone needs to help in order for the organization to be
successful. For the sake of the students, parents need to be working together
to reach our goals and to improve the band. This is one of the things that will
help us grow. Everyone needs to take an initiative.
Don’t be afraid to ask to help in any way. The director
always needs it. There is a lot of work to be done. If anyone feels that they
don’t know what’s going on, they need to contact Mr. Gillet directly. The
website always contains updates, and information constantly goes home with
students. Hard copies of the website updates
should be mailed to the band families for those who don’t go online regularly.

Lakeside Jazz Festival
|
ATTENTION BAND BOOSTERS! We need your support in planning for next year's Lakeside Jazz Festival! This Festival is a very popular event in which the AHS Band and Spruce Creek Band work together to bring High School and College Jazz Bands from around the country to our very own Port Orange City Center for two days of adjudication, musical workshops, and enjoyable performances. All the money that we raise for this event goes towards scholarships that band students from both schools can use for summer music programs.
Originally conceived by Spruce Creek Band Director Andy Kidd and former AHS Band Director Dennis Scaccia, this event has been a success in our community for each of the 10 years it has taken place. It continues to be an outstanding educational experience for our students, who must take part in the day's events by orienting the visiting bands, working on the stage, selling concessions, and several other tasks that are necessary to make the day a well-respected, professional, and fun day for all involved.
You are needed to help carry on the tradition in helping to plan this event. You can take on a leadership roll by attending our pre-planning meetings, or you can take on a smaller task as the event gets closer. Either way, we need your help!
It's a great event for our students, our schools, and our community! AHS Band and the Lakeside Jazz Festival NEEDS your support! For more information about the Jazz Festival, go to www.lakesidejazz.org.

Band Patrons Association
|
|
The purpose of the Atlantic Shark Band & Color Guard Parents Band Patrons Association (Band Boosters) is to support the Atlantic Shark Regiment Band and Color Guard. If you are in the Band or Color Guard, your parents will automatically become members of the Association after paying a $3.00 membership fee. This membership allows you to help out your child, and his or her band in infinite ways.
Basically the only financial support the Band and Color Guard receives from the school system is the nine-month salaries of the band director and the color guard instructor. Although there is a very small amount of money the school recieves from the county for instrument repairs, all other expenses are paid by the Band Patrons Association. It is for this reason that Band Dues are assessed of every participating student and a variety of fund-raisers are held each year.
The 2006/2007 Band Patrons Association will consist of a wide variety of committees and responsibilities that any band parent can take part in. Some will be less demanding than others, but all will be very beneficial to the band program as a whole. Parents are encouraged to take any responsibility that will fit their particular schedule and help out in any way possible.
Booster members who are officers will meet on the second Tuesday of each month. All Boosters will be asked to be present at five meetings throughout the year. Attendance at these meetings are strongly encouraged, as they help the Atlantic Band Program become a stronger one. As an added bonus, select students will be performing at each of our meetings.
Your parents' participation is encouraged. The Band and Color Guard depends on the Band Patrons Association for support, and the Band Patrons Association depends on the active involvement of all parents.
Each fall the Band Patrons Association will publish a directory. Included in the directory is a list of the officers and chairpersons and their phone numbers. Please communicate with them. This Is YOUR association. We wish to welcome the new parents and students and encourage you to join the Band Patrons Association. We would very much like to have you as a member of our family to share in our joys, sorrows, triumphs and enjoy the gratifying rewards we receive when we see the pride, love and compassion in our childrens faces from the support that they receive from you and us the Band Parents.

How To Be A Good Member of the Atlantic High School Band Patrons Association
|
Responsibilities:
Support the Band – Be There!
Service to the Band – Help out!
Association Involvement – Volunteer!
Financial Integrity – Pay your fees!
And never forget that what you are doing for the Shark Regiment Band, You are doing for your own children
And if it comes down to having to work so much that you can’t attend a single meeting, then make every effort to come to any of the several events:
Your attendance at that one event could mean everything to your child.
Your assistance at that one event could mean even more to your child, and everything to the band as a whole.

Band Director Comments
|
| During the past school year, there have been so many of you that have volunteered your time and put forth the efforts to see to it that our hard working students had the best opportunity to succeed.
From making and building props, fitting uniforms, volunteering at games, the Jazz Festival, working concessions and helping at rehearsals, serving on the board, attending booster meetings, getting your child to rehearsal on time, and most importantly, encouraging them when they get discouraged.
These are the REAL moments of success and usually take place when no one is watching and there isn’t an audience. I am always impressed by those of you that want no recognition for your time and efforts and you tell me, " We just want to give our children the best opportunity to succeed" . That is quite an act of kindness and a wonderful example you are setting for your children and the band/color guard students as a whole! Thank you for your time and commitment.
